After graduating from Waseda University (Tokyo-Japan) with a major in Psychology, Yukako got an M.A. in counseling from Adams State College in Colorado, U.S.A. After coming back to Japan, she worked for an international school and a child consultation center. She became an EAP ("Employee Assistance Program") consultant and worked for corporations, hospitals, elderly care centers, schools, child care centers... She became a free-lance clinical psychologist after giving birth to her first child, and started to work focusing on areas related to children and family. She worked as a counselor for a primary school and an elementary school, and trains Kids' Skills Ambassadors. In the summer of 2013, she founded the "Kids' Solutions" institute.
Solution Focused Approach was a part of the education received at her Graduate School in Colorado, and she was fascinated by the fact that this approach aims at being very practical and effective on the short-term. She continued studying the approach after her graduation under Insoo Kim Berg and Steve de Shazor’s on-line supervision, among others, and has been applying and using it in a professional context in Japan. She met Dr. Ben Furman at the 1st Asian Pacific SFA conference, held in Singapore in 2006. She has translated his books and has been spreading his programs in Japan since then. She has also been participating in the translation teams for introducing Solution Focused Approach books in Japan. She is grateful to have been given these opportunities, thanks to all those who kindly introduced her to these books and asked her to join their teams.

Dr. Nagata got acquainted with the Solution Focused Approach after working for Psychiatric hospitals for a long time. His attention was caught by the fact that this approach focuses on people's strengths instead of focusing on problems, which is the opposite from other traditional approaches. Since then, he has been actively engaged in looking for strengths and resources of patients and people around him.
Dr. Nagata started to run his own clinic in Naha City, Okinawa. He has been a representative of the NPO "Okinawa CAP Center" to prevent child abuse, and has been organizing Okinawa Life-Line" telephone counseling service. He has been giving many lectures and workshops for schools, health centers, hospitals, private companies... with various themes such as "How to talk with children and pupils", "Suicide prevention", "Mental Health", "How to boost motivation"... For any theme, he mainly focuses on how to utilize Solution Focused Approach in these areas, and he has been devoting himself to spread Solution Focused Approach.
